Open Class - Division 400 - Flower Show

General Entry Rules & Regulations

 

  • 1. All exhibits must be the bona fide property and/or creation of the exhibitor. All Horticulture and Agriculture exhibits must have been grown by the exhibitor, unless specifically stated otherwise.

  • 2. The Fair Board reserves the right to decline any entry not of show quality. The Fair Board also reserves the right to cancel any event, contest or judging without notice at any time prior to the actual holding thereof without liability except for the return of any entry fee.

  • 3. The decision of the judges shall be final in all cases. Exhibits are judged by the numerical system, i.e., 1st, 2nd, 3rd. The judge has the privilege of not giving a 1st place award if it is felt the top exhibit does not warrant it.

  • 4. No exhibitor shall attempt to interfere with the judging in any manner. Any such attempt will result in the forfeiture of any and all awards.

  • 5. Entries must be made in strict compliance with the classes designated in the premium list. The Superintendent of the section will have the discretion to add or delete any class during the conduct of the Fair.

  • 6. Entry tags and sheets will be provided.

  • 7. Premium Awards will be presented to the exhibitor as soon as possible after the closing of the Fair.

  • 8. Fair officials endeavor to protect exhibits but will not be held responsible for loss or damage. The Fair does not carry insurance on exhibits. Valuable exhibits should be insured by the exhibitor.

  • 9. Entries are open to any resident of Maryland or the District of Columbia, unless specified otherwise.

 

Division 400 - Horticulture

Entries will be received at the following times: Tuesday, September 6, 1200PM-700PM.

Judging will take place Wednesday, September 7th.

Retrieve ALL exhibits Sunday, September 11, 500PM-600PM.

  • 1. All cut entries must have been grown by the exhibitor and should be of the best quality.

  • 2. Bottles for cut specimens up to 1/2" in stem diameter will be provided by the Committee.

  • 3. Container-grown plants must have been in the possession of the exhibitor for not less than three months.

  • 4. ONLY ONE (1) entry per class may be made by an exhibitor, regardless of different cultivar. Exception - Class 40111, 40112 &43110 you may enter TWO (2) entries. Only 14 entries per exhibitor.

  • 5. The size of containers for all potted plants is limited to a maximum of 12" in any direction.

  • 6. Plants on the Protected List of the National Capital Federation or the Maryland Federation of Garden Clubs may not be used except in educational conservation exhibits.

  • 7. The Flower Show is open to all amateur growers and arrangers.

  • 8. All cut plant material must be pre-hardened so quality can be maintained throughout the show.

  • 9. Unless otherwise designated, only one plant per pot.

  • The judges reserve the right to not award a first place.

Section 431: Shrubs and Trees

 

Designer has complete freedom of design. A fabric to be placed under your design will be provided.

  • 1. Fresh plant material must predominate in all arrangements unless otherwise stated.

  • 2. Plant material in a design class need not have been grown by the exhibitor.

  • 3. All containers must be clearly marked with the name and address of exhibitor.

  • 4. No artificial fruit, vegetation, flowers or foliage is permitted in any class unless otherwise stated.

  • 5. All designs must use an underlay. Underlays will be available.

  • 6. Designer must list plant material on a 3 X 5 card.

  • 7. All designs are staged on a table 30 inches from floor.

Note: Prince George's County Fair Association is not liable for theft or breakage of any containers.
